Occam’s Razor states that among competing hypotheses, the hypothesis with the fewest assumptions should be selected. In layman’s terms, the simplest explanation is usually the correct one. But I guess it was only a matter of time before someone started attributing eerie things to the World Trade Center site, the place of one of the greatest tragedies of modern times.
Residents of downtown Manhattan are reporting eerie howling sounds coming from One World Trade Center. But is it just the wind?
NEW YORK (PIX11) – People living near One World Trade Center have reported eerie noises coming from the site on windy nights. But is there a logical explanation for the spooky sounds?
Animal New York reports that residents began hearing the strange howling, whistling sounds during Hurricane Sandy last year.
“I couldn’t be sure what it was at first, but after a moment I realized it was the Trade Center…I’m sure all of downtown hears this—it’s unmistakable and very chilling,” one man who lives a few blocks away from the site said of the sounds.
The Port Authority says that the strange noises being reported are probably just wind passing through buildings that are still under construction.
The Port Authority, which owns the World Trade Center site, says the noise is probably just the wind and far from paranormal.
A rep for the authority told PIX11 that the agency cannot confirm if any of the reported noises are in fact even coming from One World Trade or any of the other buildings in the area.
The building is still under construction, the rep stressed, and equipment moving in and out of giant, open shafts could in theory create a “wind tunnel.” Four World Trade Center is also an active construction site, with lots of space for wind to move through, the spokesperson said.
The rep added that he hopes theories of One World Trade “being haunted” don’t “become part of the dialogue.”
I’m sure the wind can sound pretty eerie at the World Trade Center site. There is still a lot of construction going on down there, and there’s still lots of openings in buildings and between buildings where the wind can whip through and probably sound pretty freaky. I just think it’s funny how this article mentions that this only really happens on windy nights, and then asks if there is a logical explanation for the sounds.
