This week we are talking about all things Jersey Devil! We are reviewing the newest documentary from Small Town Monsters, called Bloodlines: The Jersey Devil Curse. The film documents the legend of the Leeds Devil, from Native American legends to Colonial folklore through present day. Was the Jersey Devil an actual creature? Something supernatural? Or just a made-up legend, meant to scare kids from venturing too far into the woods?
We also discuss our own thoughts on the Jersey Devil and its origins. Could it have simply been a Hammer-headed bat from Africa? A wayward sandhill crane? Or just some other story that got blown out of proportion over the years? We also consider that the Jersey Devil could be conflated with local Bigfoot sightings.
Overall, Josh, Scott and I loved Bloodlines. The recreations were creepy, yet creative, and really take the viewer back to the Pine Barrens where the legend was born. And like all Small Town Monsters films, this one ultimately leaves the decision up to the viewer.
Bloodlines: The Jersey Devil Curse is available now on the Small Town Monsters website.
What do you think the Jersey Devil is? Have you ever had any weird encounters in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey? We’d love to hear about it! Email me at: jason@oddanduntold.com
