It’s been just a little over 2 years now since Finding Bigfoot aired its final episode, and in that time, there really hasn’t been a suitable cryptid-hunting show to take its place. I mean there’s been approximately 6 billion ghost hunting shows premiering and and getting canceled since then, but, well, none of them are about Bigfoot. We’ve gotten a reboot of In Search Of… (replete with reboot Mr. Spock, Zachary Quinto) and The UnXplained with William Shatner, but these shows feature different paranormal or unexplained phenomena week to week, and are not really dedicated to finding Bigfoot. But Sasquatch enthusiasts can rejoice, as a new show, Expedition Bigfoot, will be premiering December 8th on the Travel Channel. Honestly, I’m really digging the team they have put together: two Bigfoot researchers (Ronny LeBlanc and Ryan “RPG” Golembeske), a survivalist with military experience (Russel Accord), a primatologist (Dr. Mireya Mayor), and actor/Bigfoot podcaster Bryce Johnson, who was in the incredible found footage Bigfoot film, Willow Creek. From what I’m reading, I am cautiously optimistic (dare I even say, excited?) about this new series. I like the composition of the team and their differing backgrounds, as well as the algorithmic approach they allude to here. And apparently the series will document the 3-week long expedition the team went on in search of the creature. No “one night and we’re done” nonsense here. Look, I loved the goofiness of Finding Bigfoot, the cast was great, and I particularly enjoyed the eyewitness accounts. Far more so than the “research” techniques. Call me crazy, but when searching for an elusive animal, dealing with statistical algorithms is probably a better bet than setting off fireworks in the woods or having Bobo dance around dressed as a hippie. So I have more than a little hope for this new series.
Expedition Bigfoot premieres Sunday, December 8th, at 10:00pm on the Travel Channel.
