Episode 11: Ghost on the Staircase

This week, I decided to do another personal story episode. I’ve had a rough couple of weeks, and my toilet broke yesterday. Twice. Which meant that the plumber had to come, twice. Throw in some electrical issues that are still not resolved, and it made for a rough week for me. I’m trying to coordinate some guests, but with my schedule being as hectic as it was this week, it just wasn’t meant to be. So how about a ghost story? This one I call “Ghost on the Staircase.”

This week I decided to tell a story from my old apartment in Brooklyn. I mentioned this residence back in Episode 7 with my good friend John. This 2-family house had been in my family for decades, and I had lived in the apartment since I was 8 years old. Prior to that, my great-grandmother had lived there. This particular experience happened back in 2005 (possibly 2006) when I was living there with my first wife.

One particular night, at about 3am, I had awoken to use the bathroom, and to change the tape in my VCR. I loved watching TV to fall asleep, and still do. Anyway, as I was about to choose a new movie to watch, I heard what sounded like someone falling down the stairs. At first, I feared it was a family member, falling in the dark. I also thought it could have been something in the house malfunctioning – a burst pipe, or the furnace blowing a gasket. It also could have been an earthquake. But the more I investigated, the more I realized there may be another, spookier explanation. One that might be tied to my great-grandmother.

What do you think?

I hope you enjoy this more personal story, Ghost on the Staircase! And please let me know what you think it was that I experienced in the comments! See you next week…
