This week’s photo is from Roswell, New Mexico. On July 8th, 1947 (65 years ago today, actually), the Roswell Army Air Field (RAAF) public information officer Walter Haut in Roswell, New Mexico, issued a press release stating that personnel from the field’s 509th Bomb Group had recovered a crashed “flying disk” from a ranch near Roswell. Major Jesse Marcel found boxes and boxes of strange debris that had unusual properties on the ranch of Mac Brazel. Major marcel kept the story quiet until 1978, when he related the incident to UFO researcher Stanton Friedman. The Roswell incident is now the most widely-known and most controversial UFO tale in ufology. According to the legend, there was a very severe lighting storm the night of the UFO crash.
